Athens Aug 2001

In June we flew from San Francisco to Athens. The first day in Athens we went to see the Acropolis of Athens. This is a complex of temples on a high point in the center of Athens. The Parthenon is the most known of the ruins, and the temples are truly ruins. The temples are left "standing", but they are not useable in any way. The ancient Greeks worshipped their gods in these temples. The temples of the Acropolis were destroyed or burned many times over the centuries.

It is absolutely essential to see the Acropolis once in every lifetime. Athens itself, however, is not great tourist spot. The shopping is so so. The food is great, if you like Greek food, and I do. Later we took in a Belly Dancing dinner and show. It was done with a lot of of spirit, and spirits. From there we got on our cruise ship, the Crown Odyssey, and sailed off to Delos.
